During a pro-amnesty demonstration for political prisoners held in Xàtiva in April 1931, Patrocinio Camús requested to carry the Republican flag, thus consecrating it as a symbol of female republicanism in Xàtiva.

The proclamation of the Second Republic in Xàtiva was received with great anticipation. A massive demonstration was organized, parading through the city streets in a festive atmosphere, once again led by citizen Patrocinio Camús, a courageous woman who dedicated her efforts throughout her life to defending the democratic principles of the Republic.

Born in Novetlé in 1907, at the age of only 24, she took to the streets to participate in the civic events proclaiming the Republic, carrying a large Republican flag. She became a symbol not only of the Republic in Xàtiva but also of a society with new and reinforced values of freedom and equality, in which the role of women gained prominence and acquired rights that had been previously nonexistent.
