MUNICIPAL ARCHIVE OF XÀTIVA
The Route of Memory
The building that currently houses the Municipal Archive was originally the church of the Trinitarian convent of the city, founded in the year 1259. During the Second Republic, this place was one of the most important public spaces for the people of Xàtiva, as the Republican Casino was established here.
The Republican Casino was not just a leisure and recreational space but represented a symbol for the citizens of Xàtiva during the years of the Republic. During this period, it became the headquarters of the Autonomist Republican Union Party (PURA). After the Civil War, it was confiscated and eventually became municipal property.
Currently, the Municipal Archive of Xàtiva preserves important documentary collections about the Second Republic and the Civil War.
