Right up until the end of the 18th century it was still used being used as a drinking trough for animals. It is decorated with exquisite reliefs executed by at least two sculptors, one more schematic and the other somewhat coarser and more robust. The reliefs portray ivories and textiles of the period, as well as traditional themes such as motherhood, the tree of life, and war, among others.
