It is said that Himilce bore the Carthaginian general\u2019s son here, in 218 BC. Due to its strategic position, the fortress commands the Via Augusta Roman road and so was witness to Hannibal\u2019s campaigns and those of the Roman generals Scipio and Sertorius.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/mk_page_section][mk_page_section bg_image=”https:\/\/xativaturismo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/3.png” full_width=”true” predefined_bg=”9″ sidebar=”sidebar-1″][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1447920632249{padding-top: 2% !important;}”][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1464085157242{padding-top: 0px !important;padding-right: 10% !important;padding-bottom: 0% !important;padding-left: 10% !important;}” el_class=”goya-blanco”][vc_column_inner width=”1\/3″ offset=”vc_col-lg-4 vc_col-md-4 vc_hidden-sm vc_hidden-xs” css=”.vc_custom_1464090471833{padding-top: 2% !important;padding-bottom: 2% !important;}”][mk_slideshow_box images=”58138,58129″ slideshow_speed=”8700″ img_position=”center center”][\/mk_slideshow_box][vc_custom_heading text=”HANNIBAL\u2019S GATE” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:20px|text_align:left|color:%23f9f9f9″ google_fonts=”font_family:Open%20Sans%3A300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C600%2C600italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C800%2C800italic|font_style:600%20bold%20regular%3A600%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1470135998660{padding-top: 10px !important;}”][vc_separator align=”align_left” border_width=”2″ el_width=”10″ el_class=”separador”][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”false”]According to the Roman poet Silius Italicus, it was in X\u00e0tiva that Hannibal made his preparations for the siege of the Roman city of Saguntum.
